On Friday, 1 November, the link between the Elbe Trail and the Ploučnice cycle path was opened. The link is located between Ploučnická and Oblouková Streets along the Ploučnice River.

The connection of two important cycling routes in Děčín, the Elbe Trail and the Ploučnice Cycle Path, brings more comfort to cyclists. Since Friday, 1 November, cyclists and pedestrians can officially use this connection. The construction of the link cost CZK 35 million and the city of Děčín received a subsidy of CZK 17.3 million. The co-financing was provided by the European Union.

"Until now, cyclists have had to use existing roads to cross between the paths, where traffic is relatively heavy and the risk of accidents is higher. That's why we decided to build this connection," explains Deputy Mayor for City Development and IT Ondřej Smíšek (Our Děčín).

The link is located between Ploučnická and Oblouková streets along the Ploučnice River. The new section of the cycle path is completely made of interlocking pavement. The first part of the path is based on a monolithic reinforced concrete structure, while the second part runs along the Kaufland shopping centre with a new longitudinal retaining wall made of gabion baskets. The construction also included preparation for photovoltaics, new public lighting, railings, barriers, horizontal and vertical traffic signs, and landscaping and planting of the areas.
