- Ploučnice Cycle Path
The Ploučnice cycle path is marked as cycle route number 15 and runs from the source of the Ploučnice River at the foot of Ještěd to the mouth of the river in Děčín. In 2023, the missing part of the cycle route was marked on the territory of the Liberec Region and a continuous cycle route was completed. At present, the route has a total length of almost 100 kilometres and has a supra-regional character. The route connects Liberec and Ústí nad Labem regions and also larger towns such as Liberec, Mimoň, Česká Lípa, Benešov nad Ploučnicí and Děčín.
For cycling along this cycle route, we recommend that you divide your trip into three stages, so that you have enough time to get to know both the route itself and the tourist attractions along the route. In the details of each stage in the menu below you will find a description of the sub-stage as well as the tourist attractions and services on that section. It is recommended to follow the Ploučnice cycle path in the direction of the river. The route is mainly downhill in this direction (route profile). Otherwise, it is of course possible to follow the route upstream of the Ploučnice River, but you will climb more vertical metres in this direction than if you go downstream.
Safety is undoubtedly an important consideration for cyclists. For the most part, the cycle route is maintained as a cycleway or a road with a ban on motor vehicles. It is therefore a safe cycle route free of vehicular traffic on most of the route. In some places there is a cycle lane on the route and part of the route is on secondary roads with low car traffic. However, there are a few places along the route where extra care is needed due to the higher frequency of car traffic. These are mainly the section Soutěsky - Děčín-Březiny, or some places when passing through Česká Lípa.
The trail surface is varied. From asphalt, to pleasant gravel paths, to a lock base. The Ploučnice cycle path is suitable for almost all types of bikes from mountain bikes, trekking bikes to gravelbikes. In places the terrain is unsuitable for road bikes, but even road cyclists will find their own sections of the Ploučnice cycle path.
